There's a few different ways to do so

Christmas is now over and no doubt there are plenty of leftovers to recycle including any real trees.

According to tradition, Christmas trees and decorations should be taken down on either Twelfth Night to avoid bad luck.

he Church of England's countdown starts on Christmas Day, meaning decorations should be down by January 5, however many other groups count the 12 days of Christmas as starting the day after making January 6th the Twelfth.

Either way it's time to think about disposing of the Christmas tree and Wiltshire Council want to make sure we do it correctly.

People who pay for their garden waste to be collected by Wiltshire Council can put their real trees alongside their bins to be collected in January.

Alternatively you can take it to your local Household Recycling Centre.

Cabinet member for waste, Dr Mark McClelland said:

“People who subscribe to the council’s chargeable garden waste service can put their real Christmas tree alongside their garden waste bin on their first garden waste collection day in January, and we will make sure it is composted and diverted from landfill.

“The Christmas trees collected are first chipped, and then composted along with the other garden waste collected at the kerbside and from our household recycling centres.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our residents for recycling in 2021, and to thank all of the collection crews as they have continued to provide these essential services to Wiltshire residents throughout the pandemic and over the festive period."

Salisbury Hospice Charity are also running their tree collection service once again, in return for a small donation from each customer.

Registration closed yesterday (Tuesday 4th January).
