The Head Gardener at Horatio’s Garden South West has joined the Horatio’s Garden display at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Lucy Thorpe, from Salisbury, is based at the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre at Salisbury District Hospital, where she leads the team to care people and plants.

The garden nurtures wellbeing following a spinal injury and offers patients horticultural therapy and arts programmes.

Lucy has this week joined the build team for the charity, to create the charity’s show garden at the world’s leading flower show, which is led by Ryan Alexander Associates.

“It’s a really exciting opportunity to play a role in bringing this brilliant garden to life at Chelsea,” Lucy said.

She added: “This show garden will demonstrate the power of gardens and nature to health and how everyone affected by life-changing spinal injury should have access to beautiful, accessible, restorative gardens.”

Horatio’s Garden Chelsea will be the first show garden with mobility needs at it’s heart at the event.

The display has been designed by Charlotte Harris and Hugo Bugg, of Harris Bugg Studio, who worked with Horatio’s Garden to create an immersive, restorative haven.

After Chelsea, the garden will move to the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries Centre Sheffield, where it will find its legacy home as the eighth Horatio’s Garden.
