The stats have been revealed as we're asked to support rough sleepers

A total of 275 people have been supported by Wiltshire Council over the last 12 months.

The authority's revealed the figures, and say additional Government funding has meant they've also been able to provide 15 extra bed spaces for those living on the streets.

Their Building Bridges programme has helped people into employment, voluntary work and college courses - with access to accommodation, support to return to their families or to go back into their own local authority's care.

There's also been support with health concerns, accessing benefits and housing or treatment for substance misuse.

It comes as the Council's Severe Weather Emergency Protocol also remains in place, to offer extra help to rough sleepers during the cold snap.

We're asked to report any cases of homeless people to the StreetLink service by calling 0300 456 0106.

Your chance to help homeless people in Salisbury this year

Salisbury homelessness charity Alabaré is also calling on people to join them the Spring and support those on the streets through a little taster of what it's like for people.

They'll be holding their flagship BIG Sleep event at Salisbury Cathedral for the 17th year on Friday 28th March.

Supporters will spend a night on the floor of the exposed Cloisters in return for sponsorships.

The money raised will go towards the charity's work, running homeless drop-in centres and services in the city.

Alabaré also has 78 homes across the South West.

Rebecca Mullen, Alabaré’s Events Manager, said:

“Our BIG Sleep at Salisbury Cathedral promises to be a powerful, reflective, and humbling experience. As you bed down for the night, you’ll be reminded of the reality faced by those who are homeless every day. For participants, it’s one night; in the morning, you can go home to warmth and comfort. But for so many, this is not the case.

"The mental and physical health challenges faced by those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness are immense, and it’s crucial that we continue to provide this life-saving support. We rely on the incredible generosity of our supporters to keep going."

Alabaré asks each BIG Sleeper to pledge to raise at least £125 in sponsorship, or £60 for those under 18 years of age.
