A ceremony's been held at Salisbury Cathedral to mark the 'removal of colours' that have been hanging for 175 years.

The flag of the 62nd Regiment of Foot (The Wiltshire Regiment) is disintegrating, and has been taken down.

It's been handed back to the Regimental Association, during a ceremony after Evensong on Tuesday (7th March).

The colours will be cremated before being interred at the Rifles Museum in the Cathedral Close in May.

The represent the heritage and culture of the regiments that carried them.

These particular colours were taken to Sicily and Italy from 1806 to 1814, in North America in Maine during 1814 and 1815, lost for 8 months in the Ganges in 1842, and eventually displayed in Salisbury Cathedral from 1848 until now.
