The High Court’s been hearing the government's decision to approve the controversial Stonehenge Tunnel Scheme was unlawful.

Campaigners are challenging the move warning it could cause permanent irreversible harm to the World Heritage site.

The Court’s been hearing how Transport Secretary Grant Shapps gave the go-ahead for the controversial project back in November – despite concerns raised by his expert panel.

The plans include a £1.7 billion development to overhaul eight miles of the A303, including a two-mile tunnel.

It’s being challenged by the group ‘Save Stonehenge World Heritage Site’….their Barrister David Wolfe QC told the court the Secretary of State's reasons for disagreeing with the advice of his expert panel were unlawfully inadequate and unintelligible."

The case will be heard over three days.
