Wiltshire's health chief warns against complacency amid drop in Covid-19 cases
Cases in the last week are below 1,000 for the first time in a couple of weeks
Wiltshire's Public Health Director has said a drop in the number of Covid-19 cases is a positive sign, but we need to not be complacent.
Kate Blackburn wants us to continue doing our bit to bring numbers down even more.
In the seven days to the 27th of January, the latest Government figures to be released, there were 912 positive Covid-19 cases recorded in Wiltshire.
That's a decrease of 428 on the previous week.
It's the first time that number has been below 1,000 since the end of December.
The county's rate per 100,000 population is now at 182.4, below the national average of 294.2.
Kate Blackburn said:
"This was the case rate we had towards the end of December, so we saw that very sharp increase through January and it's now starting slowly to drop down. Even though case numbers are on the decline, which is really positive, we still have very high rates of infection so everyone needs to continue sticking to the rules, minimise leaving the house and having contact with other people as much as possible, we really don't want to undo any of the progress we've made so far and with such high rates still in the community the potential for those to take off again like we saw at the beginning of January is a real possibility."
In the last week, between the 25th and 31st January, Wiltshire Police gave out their biggest number of Covid-19 related Fixed Penalty Notices in a seven day period.
58 were handed out across the county, as the force are also urging people to stick to the rules.
