A stack of around 100 hay bales is alight near Semley Common this afternoon (Wednesday 26th October).

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue say around half of the bales were initially involved, when they were called out just before 12.10pm.

Two engines from Shaftesbury, one from Gillingham and a water carrier from Wilton are on the scene, and are likely to be there for some time.

They're allowing the fire to burn out under control, so the firefighters' work is focussed on protecting the surrounding area.

Two tractors have also been used by a local farmer to help create a fire break.

It's believed the blaze started accidentally.
