Resigning Harnham West Councillor blasts Salisbury City Council leadership
Eleanor Wills says the City Council are out of touch
A Salisbury City councillor has described the City Council leadership as ‘woefully out of touch’ in an explosive resignation letter.
Eleanor Wills, councillor for Harnham West has resigned from her role as she is moving to Swindon.
In a letter to residents post on Facebook, Ms Wills said she feels the City Council are too quick to blame Wiltshire Council for everything, without sufficient leadership themselves, with Ms Wills citing the lack of ‘genuine alternatives’ being put forward.
Current administration ‘out of touch’
Ms Wills said there is still work to be done to revitalise the city, but the current City Council administration are ‘woefully out of touch’.
It is Ms Wills belief that council tax is too high and that removing hanging baskets was never a ‘sensible proposition’ when wildfires are raging across Europe.
“I leave without regrets,” Ms Wills said in her letter to residents, “Looking back, politics has got rougher.
“But I believe that we will see a new generation come through hungry for change and laden with a new perspective.”
A privilege to represent the community
Ms Wills described Harnham West as a ‘special place’ where ‘community bonds are strong’.
She hoped that the voice of local people was heard and local politics had shifted from being a ‘nebulous cliquey activity few engaged in’, to something where everyone had a chance to make a difference.
Ms Wills is moving to Swindon as she has met someone.
“As a friend said to me, when you’re 90 it’s not the battles like this you’ll remember but the full life you’ve lived.
“And a happy life is victory enough.”
