Churchill Gardens was evacuated yesterday evening (30th August) after what is believed to be a Second World War hand grenade was pulled out of the river.
It's thought it was found near the Sea Cadet hut.
The discovery led to major delays on the roads, with Churchill Way South and New Bridge Road between the roundabouts closed in both directions for a couple of hours.
All roads were reopened last night but a cordon was set up as a safety precaution so the item could be assessed by Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists.
Locals were told to avoid the area while the incident was dealt with.
