Hampshire PCC cracking down on illegal car meets
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones says they're 'blighting communities'
Hampshire's police commissioner is warning car lovers who organise and attend illegal meets will be prosecuted.
She's posted on social media to say they're 'blighting communities', with cases where spectators are getting hurt.
Donna Jones is urging us to help her:
"If you know that there is one of these car meets happening somewhere near you, please let us know.
"Racing on public roads is illegal and the anti-social behaviour that's coming off the back of these quite large-scale and sometimes intimidating car meets, cannot continue."
The push to crack down on the meets comes after an incident last month, in which a teenage girl and a woman were seriously injured when they were hit by an out-of-control car in Portsmouth.
Four people were arrested in connection with what happened.
Hampshire PCC Donna Jones says people involved in the gatherings can 'expect cars to be seized, fines issued and licences withdrawn'.
She says they're focused on illegal meets - not legitimate events:
"The organisers are going to be prosecuted, so Hampshire Constabulary is going to step up its focus and presence. The takeaway message from this is 'don't partake and don't spectate'."
