A tiny brewery, set up in a converted garage in Hale, has made the best beer served at a Salisbury festival - as voted by punters.

The Knightwood Oak ale, made by Dead Duck, took the Beer of the Festival prize at Salisbury and South Wiltshire CAMRA's Summerfest.

It was voted the top drink at the event, against 29 other real ales.

It's described as a chocolate porter, created by Paul Bartlett, who said:

“I am blown away by winning this award. I thought that the brewery would never succeed so I gave it the name ‘Dead Duck’ as a joke. I am being proved wrong!”

Paul started brewing 10 years ago at home in London, after getting a kit as a Christmas present.

He and his family moved to Hale two years ago, setting up a larger brewery in their garage, as his wife says the hobby 'got out of control'.

Paul's been presented with his award by CAMRA's festival co-ordinator, Andrew Hesketh:

“Paul is an exceptionally talented brewer and our festival-goers, most of whom know a thing or two about beer, voted for this smooth chocolate porter by a considerable majority. We congratulate him”.

Dead Duck brews a total of four beers, available at The Horse and Groom in Woodgreen and the Royal Oak at Fritham.
