A document, to set out how Wiltshire's gypsy and traveller community can be better supported with housing, has been taken off the Council's agenda.

The Development Plan was due to be discussed in today's Full Council meeting (Tuesday 25th February), but has been 'deferred to a future date'.

The authority say they need more time to look at the plans, despite them already having the backing of the Council's Cabinet.

Cllr Nick Botterill, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning, said: “This is a difficult decision, but we felt it was right to defer the decision about whether the Gypsies and Travellers Development Plan Document is ready to be submitted for examination.

“We feel we need more time to further consider the plan and the points raised by our local communities.

“This is an important document for Wiltshire, so it is vital that we get it right and that sufficient time be given to scrutinise and consider local residents’ concerns.”

Plan will outline how the authority will look after housing needs through until 2038.
