A pair of elderly dogs, whose owner sadly passed away, have left Dogs Trust Salisbury and found a new home.

Roy and Sugar, who are both 15 year old Parsons Terriers, arrived at the Newton Tony centre earlier this month.

The dynamic duo have now proven they have double the love to give and have been adopted by Cathy Cooke and her daughter Alison.

Cathy said:

"I've been a supporter of Dogs Trust for some time now and had been looking to adopt a dog for a while. I always imagined adopting a puppy or a younger dog, and hadn't really considered an oldie, let alone two! But when I saw these two on the website, I was smitten and thought it would be a lovely happy ending to give them a second chance at happiness.

We knew they'd be the perfect addition to our family and our thoughts were confirmed when we met them - they're wonderful! We are so pleased to be able to give two elderly dogs a home and it feels like they have always been part of the family. We're so excited to have them in our lives - we think we're the lucky ones to be able to adopt such a wonderful duo."

Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Dogs Trust Salisbury have still managed to care for and accept new dogs who have been abandoned.

They have also been able to find forever homes for some of their furry residents, like Roy and Sugar.

Claire Rowe, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Salisbury, said:

"It's always sad when older dogs come to us after their whole world has changed but Roy and Sugar have really found their happy ending with Cathy and Alison.

We're predicting that more and more dogs will need our help in the coming months so if you feel now really is the right time for you to be getting a dog, take a look at our website to find out more, and change the tale for more of our rescue hounds."

The charity estimate that up to 40,000 more of our four-legged friends could be at risk of abandonment due to the coronavirus crisis.
