Girl Guides in Wiltshire have had the chance to share their concerns and priorities about living in the county during a visit to Wiltshire Police.

The visit was part of a day of activities aimed at achieving their Wiltshire Police Challenge Badge.

The event saw over 100 Girl Guides, Brownies and leader visit Police HQ in Devizes.

Chief Constable Catherine Roper said: "Organisations like Girlguiding play a vital role in the lives of young people, offering positive role models, safe spaces, and opportunities to develop valuable skills."

As a Guide Leader herself, the Chief backed the event as a connection that is a chance to foster the idea of public service.

The day's activities saw young girls explore the role of police in community safety, before they took on three challenges aimed at providing an insight into the world of policing and learning important life skills.

These included:

• Design their own police force – create a force vision, priorities, and structure to fit the needs of our county within a set budget.

• Solving a crime - an immersive training exercise where they will gather evidence to solve a burglary.

• Uniformed Operations challenge – learn all about protective clothing and equipment and take part in a real public order training exercise.

Upon completing the challenges and earning their badge, Chief Constable Roper was on hand to award each participant their badge.

Liz Radford, Joint County Commissioner for Girlguiding Wiltshire North said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for our girls and young women in Girlguiding to learn about the vital work of policing. We wanted our girls and young women to leave the event feeling inspired and know there is a career in policing open to them”
