Last hurrah for Gilbert the Dragon in Salisbury!
The popular floral figure will be retired after this summer
Salisbury's popular Gilbert the Dragon will have his swansong in the city this summer.
The City Council's announced that 2023 will be his final appearance.
Gilbert's been a staple part of Salisbury's summers for many years, taking part in events like the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last year and even travelling up to Hudson's Field for the National Armed Forces Day celebrations in 2019.
He's being taken out of service as the structure he's made from has 'deteriorated beyond repair'.
Salisbury City Council also say that Gilbert's planted with succulents each year, which is causing a problem, as the authority say they 'require considerable watering which is costly'.
In a statement, they've also told us that they're looking for an alternative to out friendly dragon:
"Salisbury City Council are now reviewing our summer planting to look for sustainable planting which contributes to the ecosystem and we have some lovely new initiatives that are being considered for 2024."
