A former Wiltshire Police Community Support Officer has been convicted of drink driving, while he was on duty in the south of the county.

Neil Turnbull admitted a charge of driving under the influence.

He was identified by officers at Hindon in March this year.

Turnbull was immediately suspended from the force, and resigned from his role earlier this month.

He's appeared before Swindon Magistrates and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

That will be reduced if he completes a safer driving course.

Wiltshire Police say that now criminal proceedings have concluded, they'll be carrying out an internal gross misconduct investigation.

Detective Inspector Adam Leakey said:

“Clearly, the actions of Mr Turnbull fly in the face of the standards the public rightly expect from us.

“As a direct result of his actions, he could have posed a significant risk to the public, his colleagues and himself.

“A gross misconduct investigation can now continue and we will keep the public updated as to how this develops.”
