Fordingbridge's new repair café on a mission to cut waste and save you money
The facility aims to fix household items
Fordingbridge is the latest local community to boast a repair café.
There are more than 2,3000 registered across the world with the aim to stop household items being thrown away by fixing them and to save people money.
The scheme is run by volunteers from Fordingbridge Greener Living who also aim to pass on their skills where possible so people can make repairs themselves.
The repair café operates one a month from the town's Scout Hut and is on today from 10am until 1pm with tea and cakes also available.
At the first event in April almost every item from what organisers called a 'diverse collection' was able to be repaired including an antique broach, hair straighteners, a toaster, kettle and even a teddy bear!
The group say the repairs successfully completed saved the equivalent carbon emissions as driving 313 miles.
The repair café is free although any donations are warmly welcomed and will be used by Fordingbridge Greener Living to continue their efforts to help the town become more sustainable.
Wendy Reid from there told us they have plans for the future too
"We're hoping to move forward in time to be looking at clothing repairs and running clothing work shops so people can come f and learn how to sew a hem, how to alter something and how to make something."
