More than 35 firefighters, including a crew from Fordingbridge, have tackled a huge fire in two barns full of straw.

The blaze, in Bisterne near Ringwood, broke out yesterday afternoon (Thursday 28 July) at a farm on Dragon Lane. The emergency prompted a combined fire service response from crews across Hampshire and Dorset.

Firefighters from Ringwood and Fordingbridge were called at 15:07hrs and were joined by firefighters from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to extinguish the fire involving two barns which were well alight.

The barns contained approximately 25 tonnes of straw, which fuelled the fire, but fortunately, no persons or animals were involved.

Firefighters on the scene worked with the farmer to control the burn.

At around 22:25hrs last night the incident had been scaled back and firefighters had dampened down the scene using jets and hose reels.
