A Wiltshire Police and Football Association partnership is using football as tool to work positively with young people.

The 'Roots and Shoots' scheme is a 15-week initiative to promote social inclusion, help with personal development and prevent youth crime.

It's made possible by funding from the Police and Crime Commissioner and supported by partner agencies.

Sessions take place on Friday's at the Wiltshire FA Headquarters, with available police also attending to speak to coaches and check in with the young people participating.

Coach Benson Miyoba said its improving the connections in the community.

"The regular Friday connection that they've had with the police, I think has led to better relationships in the community.

"I've seen it myself where I've been talking to one of the sergeants and some of the roots and shoots boys have been walking by and stopped to have a chat for a good 15, 20 minutes, just about life," he said.

Benson added: "I don't believe that would have happened without roots and shoots, creating that commonality between young people and the police."
