Emergency food parcel collection point set up in Downton
It follows a rise in the number of people needing help
A new collection point for Salisbury Foodbank has opened in Downton Baptist Church.
Boxes containing three day's worth of food will be distributed at the site to people with an authorized voucher.
It'll operate on Monday's from 10am to 1pm and clothing is also available for those in need.
Maria Stevenson from Salisbury Foodbank says it follows an increase in demand
"Last year there were two or three people in the area reaching out for support each month, this year it's already increased to twelve to twenty-four. It was apparent more and more support was needed in that area, working with the local church makes the service more accessible for people."
There's a collection point to donate food in the Co-op in Downton and at the Baptist Church.
Last year Salisbury Foodbank became an independent charity with its own board of trustees.
The move enables the charity to concentrate on local concerns and respond quickly to current issues.
In January of this year it recorded its busiest month ever helping 530 people.
