Flood risk on Wiltshire roads being reduced with gully clearance work
Wiltshire Council has invested an additional £1million to fix the issue
Wiltshire Council are taking advantage of the drier weather to address the flood risk on our roads by clearing out the gullies.
They've pumped an extra million pounds into ensuring they allow water to flow off the road, keeping our journey's both safe and on time.
Its the second wave of investment the council's made to get on top of the issue, with six tankers now working to clear gullies across the county.
Council Leader, Richard Clewer, said: "In the last year, we've cleared 42,000 gullies. Now we've only got about 80,000 in the county in total. So we are well on track to actually getting all of our gullies now clear and running."
He added that it's been made much worse by the months of rain we've endured over the winter, but says this latest round of funding means they have the capacity to deal with the problem.
"We've had more teams to get out there and deal with gullies that are silting up with flow coming off farmers fields," Cllr Clewer said.
He insists that the council is committed to clearing every blocked gully in Wiltshire, urging us to report any that we know of or find.
"If it's an area where it's likely of course funding it will be prioritised, it will be done quickly or it will be put on a list. You may not see action instantly, but it will be on that list and we are clearing that list so it will get cleared," he said.
We can report a blockage on the MyWilts app or through the Council's website.
