The Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury will be temporarily shut for a large part of tomorrow (Wednesday 4th May).

They will close from 10:30am until approximately 7pm for "essential" energy saving works.

In line with Wiltshire Council's aim to become carbon neutral by 2030, they have been undertaking a programme of works across many of its buildings to reduce the energy used.

The council was awarded a grant from the government's Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme that has funded the installation of a new low carbon heating system at Five Rivers Health & Wellbeing Centre and provided solar panels to produce renewable electricity.

These works are complete, and the centre will no longer rely on fossil fuels for heating and with the Green electricity tariff that the council has procured, the centre will be reporting zero carbon emissions.

Final connections are taking place tomorrow, which is why the centre will be shut for a period.

The local authority say:

  • The centre will be open as normal from 6am - 10.30am.
  • From 10.30am, any instructed sessions, including group exercise classes, and club bookings will be cancelled and credits and refunds issued where applicable.
  • All swimming lessons on this day will be cancelled and adjustments made to direct debits.
  • They will endeavour to open from 7pm until 10pm; for swimming sessions, access to the fitness suite and badminton / squash courts. No group exercise classes will be available in the evening on this day.
