Salisbury's Fisherton Street to remain one-way until next month
It's due to work on South Western Road
We're told that Fisherton Street in Salisbury is to remain one-way until mid-October.
Much of the Fisherton Gateway project, aimed at improving the attractiveness of that part of the city, has been completed but work on South Western Road is still ongoing.
Work on the roundabout and under the bridge there, which are part of the Station Forecourt project, require temporary traffic lights, meaning Fisherton Street will remain one-way.
We're told work is 'progressing well', with the mid-October completion date expected to be met.
Recent week has seen a lot of progress made on Fisherton Street with new road markings being placed, the road resurfaced and new benches and planters put into position.
It means many of the traffic management barriers along Fisherton Street were removed by the end of August, allowing greater access for pedestrians.
The resurfacing of Fisherton Street Bridge has also been completed, finishing the council’s separate bridge waterproofing project, part of its planned maintenance programme.
The work was separate from the £9million investment in the city centre, from the Future High Streets fund, but the council felt it was prudent to complete that project alongside the Gateway scheme to minimise disruption.
Cllr Nick Holder, Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Street Scene and Flooding, said: “One of the key priorities in our Business Plan is to create vibrant well-connected communities and we are making significant strides towards this goal in Salisbury.
“We are really pleased to reach the stage where these improvements are nearing completion, allowing Fisherton Street to be more accessible for pedestrians.
“We acknowledge that these improvements have caused disruption to local businesses and residents and we sincerely thank them for their patience and continued co-operation in delivering these important schemes for Salisbury.”
