First plans for revamps Wilton shopping centre submitted
The project aims to 'activate' four of the current units in at Wilton Village
A Wilton shopping centre could be redeveloped if plans are approved.
The proposals, submitted by Scrace Architects to Wiltshire Council on behalf of Wilton Village Holdings, plan to 'activate' the first four units of the Wilton Village shopping centre as well as overhaul the appearance of the surrounding spaces.
The project is aiming to preserve Wilton Village's heritage by conserving original materials and hopes to create 'engaging, inclusive, and resilient community spaces', which honour the past and welcome the future.
Two parts of centre, which is based in old factory buildings, are linked by a pedestrian bridge over the River Wylye, with the plans seeking to improve visual interest and wayfinding.
The scheme would also see the central square of the site revamped to 'create connectivity'.
This first application is the first phase of the sites redevelopment and requires Council approval.
"These proposals represent a significant public benefit," the application said, adding: "The investment into this redevelopment, particularly in light of the challenges facing retail centres today, signals a commitment to revitalising the space and ensuring it thrives in the future.
"The project team looks forward to receiving the local authority's support for this first phase of development."
