More than 100 firefighters have tackled a large fire in a row of terraced cottages in a hamlet near Andover.

The blaze broke out at The Barracks in Bransbury shortly after 4.15pm on Sunday (7th March).

At the height 19 fire engines were called to the scene including a crew from Ludgershall.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue say the fire broke out in roof space of two thatched cottages before spreading to a third.

Thanks to the efforts of fire crews a fourth property in the terrace was saved.

The chimneys of two of the cottages in The Barracks have collapsed.

None of ten people living in the properties were hurt and fire-fighters managed to recover as many of the occupant's belongings as possible.

Residents from the four homes are being supported by the British Red Cross.

Incident Commander Rob Cole said,

“Thank you to all the emergency services who attended this unfortunate incident and worked hard throughout the night to save the properties and household belongings. Thankfully, there were no casualties and we’re pleased one of the cottages could be saved."

“I’d like to extend my thanks to our firefighters and control room staff, and also thank SCAS, Hampshire Police, BRC, and our border colleagues Dorset and Wiltshire and Royal Berkshire fire services for their support.”

A structural engineer will assess the properties later today.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
