90 fire fighters tackle blaze at thatched cottage on Salisbury Plain
The A338 was closed for 14 hours
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a detached property on the High Street at Collingbourne Ducis at 4pm yesterday (27 April) after a fire broke out in the thatched roof.
At the height of the blaze 18 crews, including some from Hampshire and Berkshire, attended.
The aerial ladder platfrom from Salisbury and water carriers from Andover and Ramsbury were also sent.
The blaze affected 60% of the thatched roof but fire fighters managed to prevent it from from spreading further.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire and crews also managed to save the owner's valuables.
ROAD CLOSURE
The A338 had to be closed overnight to enable crews to deal with the incident, it was reopened at 6am this morning.
Locals were also told to keep their doors and windows closed.
Fire-fighters remain on the scene this morning.
The cause of the blaze isn't yet known.
The property involved was once a police station.
