Woopy the African Grey and his owner had a lucky escape following a fire at their home in Bishopdown

A small fire started in the kitchen of the flat in sheltered accommodation on Link Way when some food caught alight in a toaster.

A crew from the city's fire station led the male occupant to safety and then rescued Woopy from the property.

DWFRS have released this picture of the toaster at the heart of the blaze

Following the incident on Thursday evening (11th November) Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue urged residents to remember to keep their toasters crumb free!

"If you have a toaster, we would advise to empty the crumb tray regularly and pull clear of kitchen cupboards, blinds and curtains when in use."
