New Forest District Council say a resident from Bournemouth paid someone to take away a large amount of waste from house renovations at the end of August.

The waste collector then drove to the New Forest and illegally dumped it at Rockford Common.

The people were paid in cash and no receipt was given or a company name.

A name and address were found among the waste and the resident has been fined £300 under a duty of care which is the maximum local authorities are permitted to fine.

The New Forest District Council is urging people to check waste carrier licenses before paying someone to take their waste away.

"Fly tips are expensive to clear up, take staff away from other duties, are unsightly, and damaging to the local environment and wildlife."

"The moral of the story - Don’t get caught out - If you are paying someone to take away your rubbish you must check their waste carrier license and get a receipt. If your rubbish ends up fly-tipped you can be fined. "
