An elderly pedestrian died following a fatal collision on the A361 Caen Hill.
At 6.13pm yesterday evening (14 November), police received reports that a pedestrian – a woman in her 80s – had been struck by vehicles on the carriageway on Caen Hill, near Mayenne Place.
She was sadly declared dead at the scene.
One of the vehicles involved stopped at the scene. No arrests have been made.
Other vehicles are thought to have been involved but haven’t stopped at the scene.
It is possible that the drivers are unaware they have struck someone and officers are urgently appealing for them to come forward.
The road remains closed while an investigation is carried out. It is likely to reopen shortly.
Sergeant James Barrett, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life, and our thoughts are with her family.
“We are urgently working to establish the full circumstances of the collision.
“While one vehicle stopped at the scene, it’s believed that other unknown vehicles may have been involved and we are really keen to speak with any drivers who were passing Caen Hill at that time, and thought they may have struck an object in the road.
“We are also keen to speak with any witnesses or anyone who may have dash cam footage from that time.”
