Extra closure day at Salisbury's household recycling centre for the winter
Shorter opening hours have been brought in by Wiltshire Council
Winter opening hours are being brought in at Wiltshire Council's household recycling centres from today (Tuesday 1st November).
It'll mean the sites, including the one on Churchfields in Salisbury and at Boscombe Down Business Park in Amesbury, will be open an hour later each day from 10.00am and closing at 4.00pm.
At Salisbury, the centre also won't operate for an extra day a week, so it'll be closed on Fridays, as well as Thursdays.
Wiltshire Council say the changes are due to reduced usage of the sites over the winter.
Cllr Dr Mark McClelland, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Waste, said:
“Our Household Recycling Centres will continue to be available to assist and encourage people to recycle as much as possible right through the coming months, albeit on slightly different opening hours.
“In providing the HRCs we support residents to ensure Wiltshire is a place where we all take responsibility for the environment, as outlined in our Business Plan.”
The winter opening hours will come to an end on 31st March 2023.
In 2021/22, Wiltshire Council say they diverted more than 176,000 tonnes of people’s household waste from landfill.
That works out as more than 81% of the household waste they managed overall.
