Salisbury campaigners call for end of fossil fuels
They'll be at the Cheese Market this morning
Extinction Rebellion campaigners will be demonstrating in Salisbury today (7th October) as part of a call to end fossil fuels.
From 11am, participants will be at the Cheese Market as they join global action to stop the fossil fuel industry.
It follows a protest in September demanding the biggest environmental polluters pay for the damage they cause.
One supporter said the cost-of-living crisis and the climate crisis are ‘two sides of the same coin’.
They said: “We are all suffering from the cost-of-living crisis. This is mainly due to high gas prices, which has had the knock-on effect of increasing inflation and the cost of food, goods and services.”
Almost 4000 global organisations have endorsed XR’s demands for action, with more than half a million participants from 65 countries.
XR say any new fossil fuel extraction is incompatible with commitments across the world to keep warming below 1.5°C.
