Ex-Salisbury District Hospital nurse raises thousands for Stars Appeal with rowing challenge
Bertha Warrett raised the cash for the Breast Unit
A former Salisbury District Hospital (SDH) nurse has raised over £2000 pounds for the hospital’s charity, Stars Appeal.
Bertha Warrett and her team took on a machine rowing challenge of 66.5km to raise the money for SDH’s Breast Unit.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer herself in June 2022, Bertha vowed to take on the challenge after beating the disease, and she’s lived up to her word.
“It was probably the most humbling experience of my life,” she said, adding “It feels amazing to be able to do this because my first job as a nurse all those years ago was at Salisbury Hospital.”
It’s not Bertha’s first rowing challenge, having previously completed two half marathon rows in Brunei and another team machine towing challenge of 160km in North Yorkshire.
During this latest challenge, Bertha was supported by friends from Catterick, Cheptstow and Sleaford. One friend even made the journey from Brunei to show their support!
Bertha said: “We had an awesome bunch of people rowing on the day so it did not feel too hard. When you looked around you there was always someone encouraging you.
"I would like to thank everyone that donated and especially everyone that rowed with me.”
