Enquiries ongoing into Christmas Day murder in Devizes

Enquiries are continuing into the death of a woman who was found deceased on Christmas Day in Devizes.

Officers reported to the scene of a serious assault at 8:10am on Thursday inside a flat in Keepers Road. Police, as well as colleagues from the South Western Ambulance Service attended the scene, however the victim, a woman in her 80s, was declared dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old woman, who is known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder. She currently remains in custody as she waits to be questioned. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.

A formal identification hasn't yet taken place. After a preliminary post-mortem, her death is being treated as murder. Further information is needed to establish the cause of death.

A cordon set up at the address is still in place while a full investigation is carried out.

Police are still urging anyone with information to come forward in order to help with their enquiries.
