Visitors to Ellingham Show in New Forest urged not to take dogs over concerns about heat
The decision has been taken in conjunction with the RSPCA
Organisers of a popular country show in the New Forest have asked visitors not to bring their dogs due to the continued heatwave.
Ellingham show, near Ringwood, has also scrapped dog activities, including agility and gun dog displays as well as dog races.
The volunteer led charity said the decision had been taken following consultation from the RSPCA.
Stephen Thompson is the Chair of the Ringwood & Ellingham Agricultural Society;
"We have taken the decision to ask dogs owners not to bring dogs to the show ground this year. This follows consultation with the RSPCA who advise people not to travel to the show with their dogs. Temperatures are looking to be in the 30+ degree range, so people should refrain from walking their dogs in that heat. Sadly, this means an end to all our Dog Section activities and a number of events in the main ring."
Mr Thompson also stressed "the Health and Safety of our human and animal visitors to the show is our number one priority."
He added:
"Together with our public health and animal welfare partners we are taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of all other animals."
The main ring timetable is also being revised.
Visitors to the showground in the Somerley Estate are also being asked not to smoke on the site or in the car parks.
