Warning issued after reports of elderly Wiltshire residents getting scam insulation calls
They are urging the public to be cautious
Wiltshire Trading Standards say they have received reports of elderly Wiltshire residents being cold called over the telephone by people offering free surveys to check loft insulation.
When visiting they convince the residents to sign up to a contract for their loft to be sprayed with foam insulation.
In many cases these contracts run into thousands of pounds.
They have now issued a warning to the public to be vigilant and now fall victim this kind of scam.
Trading Standards have also recently received reports that residents who have previously had their lofts sprayed with foam insulation, are now being contacted by "traders" falsely claiming that their loft is excessively damp, thus requiring the removal and re-installation of the spray foam insulation.
This can also cost thousands of pounds.
ADVICE
Wiltshire Trading Standards have now issued some advice to help people stop falling victim.
Anyone with concerns about their roof insulation is being told to get trader recommendations.
A legitimate trader will rarely cold call, and will never put pressure on you to have work done.
Always be wary of any approach made in a telephone cold call.
Never give or confirm any personal details, or agree to someone visiting your home, if approached in this manner.
To report such calls or for advice contact the Citizens Advice via the consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133 or call the police on 101.
