A man in his 80s needed hospital treatement after being bitten by a dog at Hudson's Field in Salisbury.

It happened at around 1.45pm on Friday (25th June) at the popular green space where the pensioner was about to walk a dog with his daughter.

The victim had just got out his car when he was approached by a dark-coloured dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Bull Terrier or Bulldog-type dog, which bit him on the arm.

It caused a deep cut to his arm, which required hospital treatment.

Police say the owner of the dog, a woman in her 20s or 30s, did move the dog away and apologise, but she left the scene without giving her details.

The woman is described as white, with long dark hair and was driving a cream-coloured car.

In a statement the force appealed for the owner to come forwad.

"If you are the owner of the dog, you recognise this description or if you witnessed the incident, then please call PC Rachel Davies, from the Salisbury Area Community Policing Team on 101, quoting crime reference 54210061124. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111."
