Durrington Swimming and Fitness Centre has reopened it's doors today (Monday 19th October).
It's the first time they've welcomed customers since the country was put into lockdown.
To begin with only the swimming pool will be open with the gym remaining closed.
A letter to member explains why that decision has been taken.
"We will initially by reopening the swimming pool without access to the fitness suite or studio. Unfortunately, the air handling processes in the fitness suite do not conform to the Health and Safety Executive COVID-19 guidelines published regarding appropriate air circulation, which prevents us from opening this facility."
As with other venues a number of safety measures are in place to make the venue Covid secure including protective screens in place around the reception areas and customers using hand sanitiser on arrive and before they leave.
Sessions must also be booked in advance.
There's also a one way system in place and swimmers will need to come with their costume/trunks on underneath their clothes as the changing rooms are not available on the way in.
REDUCED OPENING HOURS:
Opening hours are as follows, although Wiltshire Council hope this will be temporary measure.
- Monday to Friday: 645am- 7.30am and 3.30pm-9pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 8am -2pm.
- INFLUX OF CUSTOMERS RETURNING
The venue has become the eighth Wiltshire venue to reopen,**** with sites like the Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury and the Tidworth Leisure Centre already welcoming people back.
More than 21,000 people have visited the county's leisure centres since the pandemic hit.
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
"We're so glad thousands of people have felt confident coming back to our centres and continuing their fitness journeys with us. Bringing services back at this unprecedented time is a real challenge and we were adamant that we wouldn't do so until we had the right measures in place to keep people as safe as possible. In all my visits to our centres in recent weeks I have been hugely impressed by the positivity and enthusiasm of both our staff and customers.
The safety of our staff and customers continues to be our highest priority and as this pandemic continues, we are regularly reviewing the measures and the leisure services we are providing and will make any changes should we feel the need to.
We know this has been such a difficult year so far, but we hope the services we are providing in helping to get people moving and active has helped them at this time."
