A drug driver, who was caught speeding at 104 mph on the A36 at Alderbury, has been banned from driving for 18 months.

35 year old Anthony Jones from Jordan Close in Barnstaple, Devon, has also been sentenced to 80 hours of unpaid work and a 12 month community order by Salisbury Magistrates.

He admitted drug driving and speeding in connection with an incident in May this year.

Wiltshire Police were conducting speed checks on the over-bridge on the A36 at Alderbury, when they clocked Jones.

When he was stopped, he told officers he'd recently smoked cannabis and tested positive on a roadside drugs wipe.

He was arrested and a blood sample was taken, showing he had four microgrammes of THC per litre of blood in his system - the legal limit is two microgrammes.

Roads Policing Officer DC Young said:

"We are committed to keeping Wiltshire's roads safe by cracking down on drivers who commit any of the fatal five offences which are most likely to cause a serious or fatal crash.

"Jones was guilty of two of these offences and the court deemed his driving to be of an unacceptable standard."

The other fatal roads offences Wiltshire Police are committed to tackling include: driving whilst using a mobile phone, failing to wear a seat belt and careless driving.

Jones has also been ordered to pay a £230 fine, a £114 surcharge and £85 in court costs.
