A drug driver who was stopped by police on the A303 has been banned from the roads for 15 months and handed a fine of almost Ā£600.

Officers on mobile patrols on the eastbound carriageway near Cholderton, back in January, pulled over a black Vauxhall Corsa after ANPR data which showed it was being driven without MOT or insurance.

When they spoke to the driver Daniel Stevens, he appeared distracted and vacant and took several seconds to register the police presence.

The officers were concerned about his behaviour so conducted a roadside drug wipe, which gave a positive indication for cannabis.

Stevens, 24, of Egerton in Kent, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday (3rd August) and pleaded guilty to drug driving, driving without insurance and driving a vehicle without a valid test certificate.

He was disqualified from driving for 15 months, ordered to pay a Ā£596 fine, plus a victim surcharge of Ā£60 and court costs of Ā£85.

Wilshire Police say if you're suspicious of someone driving under the influence of drugs then 101 with as much information as possible, including the driver's details or description and their car registration.
