Drivers urged to avoid A303 near Stonehenge due to vehicle fire

Wiltshire Police had to close the A303 near Stonehenge in both ways due to a vehicle fire this afternoon (Thursday 29th July).

UPDATE: Both carriageways have now reopened.

The fire has come to a stop.

They were called at 12.17pm and the vehicle was on a slip road close to Longbarrow.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

"A crew from Salisbury were called to a small vehicle fire on the A303 near Stonehenge at 12.18pm this afternoon. Two breathing apparatus wearers used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. The stop came at 12.56pm."
