Almost 50 drivers caught breaking speed limit in New Forest during clocks go back crackdown

Police in the New Forest along with partner agencies have stepped up action to address speeding drivers and subsequent animal deaths in the National Park.

With the clocks going back and the evenings darker there's been a renewed plea from organisations for drivers to take extra care and to stick to the 40mph limit.

Stats show November and December are the deadliest month for accidents.

Yesterday (1st Nov) officers focused on Roger Penny Way which runs from Cadnam to Godshill and is a notorious hot spot for animal accidents.

Specialist officers with hand held speed devices and the Hampshire Constabulary camera van to deal with the excessive speeders. 47 drivers have been reported for that offence.

Members of Forestry England, the National Park Authority, the New Forest Roads Awareness Team, the Road Safety Team and New Forest District Council we’re all present and worked together to engage and educate all of the drivers stopped by Police.

In a post on social media New Forest Heart Cops thanked those drivers that were sticking to the rules.

"It is so important to understand why the speed limits are in force across the Forest and the educational work carried out by our partners is both essential and life saving."

On a separate note one van we stoped was searched and contained various scrap metal we suspect was about to be fly tipped. The driver was wanted and was dealt with by Police.

" Finally we would like to thank all of those drivers who we didn’t have to stop and talk to because they were sticking to the speed limit, and all of our partner agencies for their continued work and support."
