A driver was caught in Wilton yesterday (Wednesday 18th August) going 43 miles per hour in a 30 zone, in a residential area.

Neighbourhood PC Mark Douglas was carrying out speed checks in the town and encouraging people to slow down.

The one driver caught was given a speeding ticket.

Police say that some of locals approached them and said that they had noticed people driving a lot slower than usual.

In a post on Salisbury Police's Facebook page, they said:

"Please take care when on the roads, particularly within 30mph speed-limits as these are normally put in place to protect pedestrians."

SPEEDING DRIVERS HAVEN'T LEARNED

At the end of July and beginning of August, Wiltshire Police ran a two week campaign to crack down on people going over the speed limit.

In that time they stopped 159 motorists on the county's roads.

Its aim was to educate and raise awareness of the risks of serious injury and death when travelling in excess of the speed limit.
