Hundreds of people across our local community have donated items for Wiltshire For Ukraine a group set up to provide information on what's needed to help people fleeing the war torn country and those who remain behind.

Businesses have stepped forward offering space, in Tisbury the Nadder Centre was a hive of activity over the weekend as volunteers sorted through hundreds of items before boxing them up and loading a large lorry.

The generous donations will be heading to Lviv.

Magdalena Najman from the group said the driver will be staying in Ukraine;

"We bid an emotional farewell and safe journey to the driver Alexandr a Ukrainian national who informed us that after successful delivery of the goods he intends to stay on and fight with his people. He carries the love and support of our community with him."

Donations can continue to be dropped off at a number of locations this week with people urged to check the Facebook page for the latest information and list of what's needed.

Five Rivers Leisure and Wellbeing Centre will be receiving items on Friday (11th March) and Saturday (12th March) after Wiltshire Council stepped forward to help.

Meanwhile Salisbury Removals will collect items from there, store them in their large warehouse in Old Sarum and drive them to Ukraine once border crossings are approved.

Those donations will go to the main aid centre in Dnipro a city in western Ukraine.

Henry from the company told Greatest Hits Radio he just wants to do his bit;

"I've got quite a few friends in Ukraine and I used to work in Kyiv for a long period of time, I've also worked in the south east of Ukraine so it's a cause that hit home."

This 8.3 tonne lorry will make it's way to Ukraine in the next weeks with donations.
