A dog rehoming centre in Wiltshire is asking for more of us to offer a temporary home to a four legged friend.

The Dogs Trust in Newton Toney wants more foster carers with numbers of people giving up their pets remaining high.

The charity is seeking fosterers who can look after larger breeds or those with specific requirements.

Fostering a dog can last between a handful of days or a few months, but the charity continuously supports foster carers, with all costs, including food, bedding, grooming and vet treatment, covered by the Dogs Trust.

It also opens up space for pets at the rehoming centres, as well as giving dogs that have been in rehoming centres for a while a break from the environment, as well as seeing how dogs respond to a home environment. .

Claire Rowe, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Salisbury, said: "As we continue to receive high numbers of enquiries from owners needing to relinquish their dogs to us, we are appealing for more foster carers to open up their homes to support us. Fosterers play a vital role in the way we care for dogs, giving our dogs a chance to be cared for in a home environment and allowing us to look after even more dogs.

"If you're interested in becoming a Dogs Trust foster carer, please contact us or visit our rehoming centre for more information."

Dog fosterers must be 18 or over, have their own garden or regular access to an outside space, and no children aged under 10 in the home.
