A dog has sadly died in a fire in a holiday park chalet in Fordingbridge last night.

Hampshire Fire crews from Fordingbridge and Ringwood and a Dorset & Wiltshire Fire crew from Cranborne were alerted shortly before 6.00pm yesterday (Wednesday 11th January) to a fire at a chalet in Sandy Balls estate, in Godshill.

Smoke and flames were issuing as crews arrived on the scene with the building significantly damaged in the blaze.

Jets and hose reels were used to stop the fire before ventilation fans cleared the smoke.

One person was rescued and was given immediate emergency care by firefighters and treated for smoke inhalation.

A dog was removed from the property, but sadly, without life.

Fordingbridge fire crews shared pictures showing the damage done by the blaze, which is believed to have been caused by a chip pan blaze.

A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said:

"One dog died following a chip fan blaze at a chalet on the Sandy Balls estate in Godshill.

"Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the property to remove the dog which had sadly died.

"One casualty was given Immediate Emergency Care by firefighters and treated for smoke inhalation.

"The stop message came in at 19:40 with one crew set to return to conduct a reinspection and check for remaining hot spots."
