A Wiltshire teenager has handed out a thousand free meals to school children this summer.

Buddy Muns, 14, started the project after hearing about the struggles of his friend during the school breaks, and vowed to ensure children don't go hungry over the summer.

His Lunchbox Buddy project has been backed by local organisations, as well as national brands such as Warburtons and Cathedral City, who are providing food to be handed out.

It's allowing him to provide families with packed lunches, as well as food for dinners and breakfast.

"So far it's going really well," Buddy told Greatest Hits Radio. "We're seeing a lot of families coming back each day."

He says it's making a massive difference to those families, allowing him to see that people are struggling and that they need help.

"We've got dinners, lunches and breakfasts so we can give a lunch out, but we can also take them home. We can give them food to take home for the days that we're not here. We've got sanitary products and toys for the children as well," Buddy said.

He says it's bringing him confidence and improving his social skills. And while he said being an inspiration to others his age "would be nice", Buddy insisted that it's more about helping people.

Father who couldn't be prouder of his son

Dad Dominic says he is "immensely proud" of his son.

Dominic, who is a Wiltshire Councillor says it means a lot to him that the values that are so important to him have manifested into something special led by Buddy.

"There's a great community spirit in Devizes," he said. "To do a project that supports the community and sees the uptake from local residents, that's really exciting.

"Then to see national brands pick up on this project and start to supply with food and financial rewards as well is incredible."

Buddy will continue to be out in Devizes Market Place for the next two and a half weeks until the conclusion of the summer holidays, ensuring children do not have to go hungry during the school break.
