Wiltshire Police have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing in Devizes.

Officers first received reports of an incident taking place at 12:30p.m. on Saturday (June 29th) on the Estcourt Street area of the town.

When responders arrived at the area, they found a man in his 20s who had suffered serious stab wounds.

The victim was taken by air ambulance to the local Southmead hospital, where doctors have described his condition as "stable".

Following this, a man - also in his 20s - was arrested by police on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as the possession of a bladed article and assault on an emergency worker.

The force said that the suspect was taken to Melksham Police Station and has been remanded in police custody, as he is questioned.

Speaking on the case, Detective Inspector Gareth Kitchener said: "Whilst enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact location of this incident, we are aware that both the suspect and victim were seen running within the location near to Kwik-Fit and onto Sidmouth Street immediately after.

"We received multiple calls from members of the public in relation to the incident and would urge any further witnesses who have not already contacted police to get in touch immediately."

Kitchener added that the force believes there is little further risk to the public at this time, and urged that investigations were ongoing, before thanking the local community for their help so far.

Anyone who may have any relevant information relating to the case is being asked to get in touch as soon as possible.

Those who may have any information, or witnessed the attack itself, can speak to the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 150 from June 29th.
