Motorists are being warned of an 'abnormal load' travelling through South Wiltshire this morning.

The convoy consisting of two loads, which are railway points about 4.8m wide, is being escorted by police and private vehicles.

It will enter Wiltshire via the Parkhouse junction on the A303 at about 9:15am.

WHERE IT WILLL HEAD

The abnormal load will continue on the A303 to Longbarrow Roundabout, where it will head south towards Salisbury via the A360.

It will skirt around Salisbury via The Avenue to the A36 heading along Wilton Road then turning into Roman Road on Bemerton Heath.

After heading along Pembroke Road, Rawlence Road and Westwood Road, it will arrive at its final destination - Hazel Close.

A Spokesperson from Salisbury Police said:

"Due to its size it will be slow moving and has the potential to cause additional delays where oncoming traffic may be required to pull in and wait for the convoy to pass.

"Wherever possible, disruption will be kept to a minimum although both hauliers and motorists are asked to please be patient should they come across the convoy. Anyone travelling over this period on time critical matters should allow sufficient additional time for their journey.

"Police escorting resources are being provided by officers, paid for by the haulier at no cost to the public."
