Salisbury District Hospital have confirmed that another patient has passed away there, having tested positive for Covid-19.

This means the total number of fatalities is at 268 since the pandemic began.

The number of positive patients has increased by 10 in one day.

That currently stands at 82.

A spokesperson for Salisbury District Hospital said:

"Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Salisbury District Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19 died on Tuesday 29th March. The patient was in his 60s and had no underlying health conditions. 268 patients in total have now passed away.

Our thoughts and condolences are with her family and loved ones at this very difficult and distressing time.

We are still experiencing a high number of COVID-19 positive patients - there are currently 82 COVID-19 positive patients being treated at the hospital.

We would ask the public to remain cautious and to take appropriate precautions to avoid transmission. Although the government has lifted restrictions, the hospital’s COVID-19 measures remain in place until further notice. We remind visitors to the hospital that they must wear a face mask when in the hospital and have a negative lateral flow test before entering the buildings. They should not visit if they have any symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, with the current levels of COVID-19 still in our community, people should take up the invitation for a COVID-19 vaccine when offered. It is never too late to get a first vaccine.”
