The MP for the Devizes constituency, which includes huge military bases like Tidworth, Bulford and Larkhill, as well as much of Salisbury Plain, is calling for soldiers to be publicly thanked for their work through the Covid-19 crisis.

Danny Kruger says his 'patch' is the 'home of the British Army' and they've made 'an immense contribution' during the pandemic.

He's come up with one idea to recognise them:

"Would (the Defence Minister) welcome, as I would, a welcome home parade that might be organised by the Houses of Parliament, for soldiers once the Covid crisis is behind us, as we do for troops who have been deployed overseas?"

The propsosal got a positive response, according to Mr Kruger.

Soldiers have been involved in delivering the rapid lateral flow coronavirus testing pilots, ahead of them being rolled out across the country soon.

They also set up many testing centres early in the pandemic, such as the one at the Beehive in Salisbury.

It's expected that they'd have a role in getting a Covid vaccine out once that becomes available too.
